MEETING CHANGE: Please note: the last Central PTO meeting has been moved to June 1st at 9 AM. It will be held at Michelle Kane's home for current and incoming board members. Please email us at info@central36pto.org for more information.
Here you will find our mission, purpose, and function as it pertains to our District’s PTOs at each of our five schools. MISSION The Winnetka Public Schools’ PTOs are each separate organizations that fall under one “Central PTO” umbrella. The purpose of the PTO is to further enrich the experience of our children at the Winnetka Public Schools and in the community. The PTOs support, enhance, and encourage the educational and social environment of The Winnetka Public Schools. The goals are to complement the school curriculum with additional opportunities for parents, teachers, and students to learn, socialize, communicate, and grow. The PTOs establish and maintain programs and committees and purchase items for the schools to fulfill the above stated purpose and engage in fundraising activities to support such efforts.
THE CENTRAL PTO: PURPOSE AND FUNCTION The purpose of the Central PTO is to share ideas, foster communication, create consistency, and share resources among the schools PTOs. This separate central board meets monthly and is comprised of each of the schools' PTO presidents, the superintendent, and an additional Central PTO president, vice-president, treasurer, and secretary.
SCHOOL-LEVEL PTOs Each elementary school in the district has their own PTO. The Skokie School and Carleton Washburne School have one combined PTO. Each school's PTO website will be live Summer, 2012. Crow Island Elementary School (K-4) Greeley Elementary School (K-4) Hubbard Woods Elementary School (K-4) The Skokie School (5/6) and Carleton Washburne School (7/8)
PTO MEMBERSHIP All parents, and/or legal guardians of students who are enrolled in The Winnetka Public Schools are eligible for membership in the PTO. If members pay annual dues they are eligible to vote on all issues before the membership. Each school’s PTO Executive Board is composed of PTO members who are selected by a selection committee and then voted in by the entire applicable PTO. In addition, principals and/or a teacher representative serve on the board to foster clear communication and collaboration between organizations. The Boards meet on a monthly basis throughout the school year. Board members manage the organizational and financial aspects of all the PTO functions.
BUDGET Each of the PTOs operate on an annual budget, which is approved by their school's executive boards. The money used to sponsor PTO activities is raised through annual dues and fundraising events. Each school’s PTO contributes to the over-arching Central PTO. These funds are used for PTO administrative expenses, auditing expenses, website design and maintenance, donations to community programs and organizations that enrich our PTO mission. Individual school PTOs sponsors a wide variety of programs and events. These events are for social and fundraising purposes. The PTO also initiates programs that increase educational opportunities for the students. Fundraising monies raised by the PTOs are used towards general PTO programming, teachers' and principals' wish lists, and various projects that enhance the schools. Please click on the individual school to learn more about their programs and fundraising activities (coming Summer, 2012). The achievements of the The Winnetka Public Schools PTOs can be measured in the cooperative spirit with which parents and teachers work together to share their care and concern for Winnetka's students. The PTO's success can be seen in students' appreciation for their school, their teachers, and the opportunities these give to them. 2012-2013 Slate of Officers This is to give notice that the following is the Central PTO slate for the upcoming
school year, 2012-2013. I thank our Central PTO nominating committee for their dedication to making a terrific slate. For
